Riftbound Unleashed Preview: What is Next for the League of Legends TCG
Riftbound Unleashed arrives May 8th with Vex and Vi Champion Decks. Here is everything we know.
The Rift Expands
Riftbound: Unleashed is the third set in the League of Legends TCG, scheduled for release on May 8, 2026. Building on the foundations laid by Origins and Spiritforged, Unleashed promises to push the game's mechanics into exciting new territory.
New Champions: Vex and Vi
The two new Champion Decks feature Vex and Vi, two of League of Legends' most popular characters:
-
Vex — The gloomy Yordle mage known for her anti-mobility kit. Expect a control-oriented deck that punishes aggressive strategies, reflecting her in-game identity.
-
Vi — Piltover's legendary enforcer. Her deck will likely lean into aggressive tempo plays with powerful combat mechanics.
The contrast between Vex (defensive control) and Vi (aggressive tempo) should make for excellent gameplay dynamics and give players two distinct playstyles to explore.
Product Lineup
Based on the established Riftbound product pattern:
-
Booster Boxes and Booster Cases for the core expansion
-
Two Champion Decks (Vex and Vi) as ready-to-play entry points
-
New mechanics building on the Rift system introduced in Origins
What We're Watching
Meta Evolution
Two sets in, the Riftbound meta is maturing. Unleashed needs to introduce meaningful counterplay options without power creep. How UVS Games handles this balance will be important for the long-term health of the competitive scene.
Champion Diversity
With Unleashed, the game will have seven Champions across three sets (Jinx, Viktor, Lee Sin, Rumble, Fiora, Vex, Vi). This expanding roster is reaching the point where deck building diversity becomes a real strength for the game.
Community Growth Trajectory
Each Riftbound release has brought more League of Legends players into the tabletop space. Unleashed could be a tipping point — with three sets available, new players have enough product to build diverse collections, and the game has proven it has staying power.
What Spiritforged Tells Us
The Signature variants in Spiritforged (1 in 700 packs) set a high bar for chase card rarity. If Unleashed introduces similar ultra-rare treatments — potentially themed around Piltover or Zaun rather than Spirit Blossom — collector demand could be significant. The Ahri Signature from Spiritforged is currently the most valuable card in the entire Riftbound TCG.
Champion Decks have tended to sell out at local game stores faster than booster product, so early pre-order interest is worth noting for Vex and Vi.
Pre-Release Context
May is still a few months away, but early patterns from Origins and Spiritforged suggest that Riftbound sealed product prices tend to be most favorable around launch. The community is still small enough that supply isn't an issue, but growing fast enough that early sealed product could appreciate.
